Wind energy contractor used 480 HDPE mats to create a 1.2 km temporary access road plus crane pads.

A wind farm developer in Eastern Europe needed temporary access for a 600-ton crawler crane to erect 12 turbine towers across boggy ground. Permanent gravel roads would have damaged farmland and required regulatory approval. Solution: HDPE ground protection mats laid as a temporary roadway.
480 mats shipped in 1 × 40 HC FCL + 1 × 40 GP container = ~26 tons. Customer's local crew laid the entire road in 4 days using a forklift and one labor crew.
All 12 turbines erected without rutting the farmland. Mats lifted out at end of project, washed, and put back into rental fleet. Mats are now in their 4th wind farm project.
Vs gravel: ~70 % lower total cost when including reinstatement (returning farmland to original condition is required by EU regulation; gravel removal costs ~€80/m²; mats cost €0 to remove).
