Tower crane outrigger pads see significant impact loads during truck-crane assist erection — the auxiliary crane lifts the tower mast section while the truck crane outriggers absorb the swing load. Standard HDPE pads can fracture under this shock loading. UHMWPE doesn't.
UHMWPE outrigger pads typically last 8-12 years in heavy fleet service. We've replaced pads supplied in 2014 that were still in service — replaced for cosmetic reasons (yellow faded) rather than functional failure.
